The Rug Gallery Rug Resizing

Rug Resizing

A rug with worn fringes in need of professional repair

Worn Fringes

There are a couple of options when it comes to repairing worn fringe. One is to remove the fringe and serge the ends, leaving the rug fringe-free. Another option is to use replacement fringe. Finally, we can do what’s called an overcast. This involves pulling out part of the pile and wrap-stitch around every thread of the warp sticking out, which holds it in place and creates new fringe.

Holes and Tears

Fixing holes depends on the size of the hole and how good the rug is. If possible, we weave it with either new yarn or with saved patches from an old rug. Another solution is to darn the hole. Tears are usually a little easier to repair. We put the warps or west back into them, which is what holds the rug together.

Moth Damage

Our treatment is not a pesticide and is safe for your family and pets. The larvae reject the taste of the wool when this treatment is applied. To monitor if you have any activity in your home call and ask us about Pheromone Traps.

Unraveling, Pulls, and Snags

While there are a lot of “home remedies” for repairing snags and unraveling on carpets, it’s best to leave this repair to professionals. We will assess the length of the pulled or unraveled threads for the best method of repair. This may include cutting away the loose pieces or re-weaving them back into the rug.

Loss of Shape

Rugs such as classic Orientals, Aubussons and Needlepoints can stretch and lose their shape. Rugs can have a flaw in their weaving, and may not lie flat on the floor. Utilizing a specialized technique of carefully stretching the carpet called blocking, we can rectify these types of problems.

Pile Wear

All carpets have a specific pile direction that can be lost over time. Known as pile pooling, shading or reversal, this is a common issue thanks to heavy furniture and trampling feet. Using a variety of methods, we can help bring your carpet pile back to life.
