How to Clean LVT Flooring

Luxury vinyl tile flooring is a great, durable option for people with a busy, high-impact lifestyle. However, even the sturdiest of floors need cleaning. Have you just installed this type of flooring in your home and are unsure how to properly maintain it? No problem! We’ve put together some tips and tricks for how to clean LVT flooring correctly to keep it looking great and functioning well.

1. Use low-impact cleaning techniques.

Cleaning luxury vinyl tile flooring doesn’t need to be a hassle. In fact, this resilient material makes it easy to maintain spotless and beautiful floors. The key is to use low-impact cleaning techniques—such as basic vacuuming and damp mopping—when caring for this type of flooring. Vacuuming not only removes ground-in dirt and debris but can also help remove allergens, dust mites, and other potentially harmful irritants from your home. Damp mopping with purpose-made LVT floor cleaners can also help your floor look great by removing dirt and debris. Make sure you keep up with regular maintenance; even low-impact cleaning techniques should be employed once or twice a week, and any spills should be cleaned up without delay in order to keep your floors looking their best!

2. Use a gentle cleaning solution.

When it comes to cleaning LVT flooring, remember that gentle is best! Stay away from hot water and strong cleaners, as these can damage the surface of your flooring. Instead, look for a cleaning solution made specifically for vinyl flooring. This will not only do a better job of keeping your floors clean without damaging them, but they can also help to maintain their overall condition over time. Finally, try using warm or lukewarm water. This ensures that you’re cleaning effectively without risking any damage to the surface.

3. Use a microfiber mop.

When it comes to finding the right mop for cleaning LVT flooring, the best option for success is microfiber. This type of material is designed to effectively lift and remove dirt and debris, leaving your floors looking clean and sparkling in no time. Additionally, if you want even better results, opt for a mop that doesn’t have a built-in scrub brush. These are like sandpaper! A quality microfiber mop will do all the work on its own and save you from worrying about scratching or damaging your LVT flooring with an abrasive brush.

Other tips:

  • Place protective felt pads under furniture, such as chair and table legs.
  • Use doormats at entrances to prevent dirt, dust, and other debris from being brought inside. This will make your daily and weekly cleaning easier.
  • Do not place portable heaters on LVT flooring.
  • Do not use steam cleaners, oil-based products, wax/varnish, or acetone.
